Understanding
the Problem
Kotak Mutual Fund required modern, frictionless investor journeys across web and mobile. Investors faced friction during identity verification, scheme discovery, and portfolio rebalancing, while support desks were overwhelmed with repetitive folio queries and statement requests. The engineering objective was twofold: build an intelligent conversational AI chatbot to resolve investor inquiries automatically, while architecting high-concurrency, tamper-proof transaction engines for KYC, SIP, Lumpsum, Switch, and Scheduled Redemptions with zero fault tolerance.
Architectural Execution
Architected an intelligent investor chatbot module using structured intent classification and context retention, allowing users to query portfolio NAV, fetch recent transactions, and receive step-by-step guidance into transaction flows
Engineered digital KYC verification integrating real-time KRA status checking, PAN verification, and Aadhaar-based OTP authorization for instant investor onboarding
Built automated multi-folio portfolio management enabling seamless linking of existing folios, consolidated holding statements, and dynamic tax/capital gain reports
Engineered the core transaction processor supporting Quick Invest, Lumpsum via Net Banking/UPI, and recurring SIP scheduling with automated bank mandate triggers
Developed inter-scheme fund switching allowing seamless asset transfer between debt, hybrid, and equity funds with exact NAV cutoff time handling and validation rules
Implemented redemption and scheduled redemption modules (SWP/STP) with automated bank validation, payout reconciliation, and compliance logging
